For most of my twenties, golf was a big part of my life. I played often, worked my handicap down to a 5, and loved the challenge of improving my game.
Then life happened.
I got married, started a family, built a career, and for the
next 30 years I played only a couple of rounds each year.
Like many golfers, I assumed I would simply pick the game
back up when life slowed down.
When I started playing regularly again in my early fifties, I quickly realized something had changed.
My swing wasn't the problem.
My body was.

My kids even had a running joke before every round.
"Are you going to use your young man swing or your old man swing today?"
The "young man swing" was the one I remembered from years ago. It created more speed and distance—but it usually left my back, hips, and shoulders hurting afterward.
The "old man swing" was full of compensations. I shortened my backswing, protected my back, avoided certain movements, and accepted that getting older meant giving up distance and consistency.
For a while, I thought those were my only two choices.
Then I asked myself a different question.
What if I stopped trying to change my golf swing... and started changing my body instead?
That question changed everything.
I began learning about strength training, mobility, recovery, nutrition, inflammation, and the daily habits that help us stay active as we age. Instead of searching for the next swing tip, I focused on becoming a healthier, stronger version of myself.
The results surprised me.
I moved better....recovered faster....I had more energy.
My body felt younger.
And perhaps most importantly, golf became more enjoyable again.
That experience became the foundation for Elevate with Jim.
I don't claim to have all the answers, and I'm not here to teach the perfect golf swing. There are plenty of talented instructors who do that far better than I ever could.
What I do understand is what it feels like to love this game while wondering if your body is slowly taking it away from you.
If you've ever walked off the course with an aching back, stiff hips, sore knees, or the feeling that your body is holding your swing back, you're not alone.
I believe we have more control over how we age than most people realize.
Through simple habits, smarter training, better nutrition, and consistent movement, we can improve the way we feel—not just on the golf course, but in everyday life.
That's what you'll find here.
Practical ideas.
Science-backed strategies.
Personal experiences.
And encouragement from someone walking the same journey.
Because my goal isn't simply to help you play better golf.
It's to help you enjoy the game you love for many years to come.
Welcome to Elevate with Jim.
Let's move better, eat better, and play better—together.
